Latest news:

We FINALLY moved into our new north store! Come check it out! The mural isn't done yet but looks AWESOME already!

FAQ's:

Q: Are your snakes poisonous?
A: None of our snakes are poisonous, it is illegal to sell "hot" snakes in the city of austin.

Q: Will I get salmonella if I touch the reptiles?
A: Reptiles are natural carriers of salmonella, it is passed through their feces. As long as you wash your hands afterwards you will be fine. Your more likely to get salmonella from undercooked chicken than reptiles.

Q: Do the animals bite?
A: Any animal could bite if you are not careful and properly hold the pet. If you have any questions or want to hold one of our animals ask one of the employees who will be glad to show you as long as the store is not too busy

Q: Is a sugar glider the same as a flying squirrel?
A: We carry both animals and they are quite different. Both are cute, cuddly and require alot of attention. Sugar gliders originate from Austrailia, Flying squirrels from N. America and Europe. Neither animal actually fly, they use a thin membrane between their arms and legs to glide from high locations. Sugar gliders are usually grey and black, Flying squirrels are tan and black.

Q: How can you stand the smell inside the store?
A: Because we have so many different animals to offer in one small store, we have a lengthy list of daily tasks to keep the store smelling as nice as possible...if we didn't you wouldn't be able to even walk through the door! You get used to the smell quickly, plus all the cool animals makes you forget about the smell in no time.

Q: Do the animals ever get out of their cages?
A: We try very hard to make sure our animals and our customers are safe at all times. We occasionally have some escapees but they are quickly caught. To help us keep the animals safe make sure an employee is assisting you before you open a cage.

Q: How come you can't sell turtles under 4 inches?
A: It is a federal law that restricts us, turtles under 4 inches can only be purchased for scientific, research or educational purposes. Because of this we try to carry a wide variety of bigger water and land turtles to meet your needs.

Q: Does my reptile really need a ultraviolet light AND a heat light? Won't setting it by a window be enough?
A: A window cuts down the necessary rays the reptile would get in the wild. (That's why you don't get a sunburn in your car with the windows up) Also, a reptilebeing by a window a night could cool the reptile to an unsafe temperature, or opposite, during the day it could heat the animal way beyond the maximum recommeded temp. With a UV light and Heat light you can safely regulate your tanks temp to ensure your new friend will be happy and healthy.

Q: Do you really touch the snakes, scorpions, and tarantulas?!?!
A: We do, every day in fact. If you work at herpeton you have to get over your fear of these little creepy animals. If your interested in safely learning how to handle and appreciate these cool pets ask any employee, as long as its not too busy we would be more than willing to show you.

Q: When do you feed the snakes?
A:
We feed every thursday, it takes alot of the day so come on by and you might be able to witness a feeding. Sometimes we even have store pets that eat, and eat, and eat! You buy the food and get to see it eat right in front of you.

Q: Do your scorpions really glow in the dark?
A:
Our Emperor's do and its pretty neat. All you need is a black light and a dark area and they turn green!

Q: What's the animals name?
A:
We don't usually name our animals because they are not with us for very long. If we name them we get attached. (That's why our employees have SO many animals at home)
